While several models of employment exist within family day care, in most cases you will enjoy the flexibility of running your own business with the support and guidance of your approved service. Based on the demand in your area and the policies of your approved service, you will often determine your hours of work and your remuneration.
You will also develop tailored educational programs for your children based on their individual developmental needs, interests and experiences.
- Support and guidance while settling into your business.
- To guide educators in planning and reflection, and mentor in implementation practices.
- To assist with documenting children’s learning and how these assessments can inform curriculum decision-making.
- Ongoing commitment to continuous improvement
- The Educational Leader will consider what strategies are needed to improve the educational program in the Approved Service.
- To lead and be part of reflective practice discussions about practice and implementing the learning framework.
- To mentor educators by leading quality practice.
- Management and administrative systems enable the effective provision of a quality service.
- To provide and advise of regular professional development opportunities.
- Ensure the educator’s home continues to meet Health & Safety standards.
- Advise educators about legislative requirements in which they must operate.
- Refer families to educators with vacancies .
- Work in respectful partnership with educators and families .
- Consult and engage educators in Policy Review and Implementation .
- Administer timesheets and pay Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate to educators on behalf of families .
- That any grievances and complaints are managed effectively.
- Hold or be actively working towards at least a Certificate Ill level education and care qualification.
- Current first aid and CPR certificates and training in the emergency management of asthma and
anaphylaxis. - Appropriate clearances for working with children.
- New educators must provide a national police check (must be no more than 6 months old).
- Maintain current public liability insurance – this is available from Family Day Care Australia.
- An educator may care for 3 additional school age children, outside of school hours.
- You must provide a safe, stimulating and educational learning environment.
- Your approved service will do an assessment of your residence and advise of any changes that may be
required by government regulation. - If you live in a rental property you will need to advise your landlord of your intent to operate a family day
